Where?

map of Paros

The yoga courses will be held on Paros, one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades. The Cyclades are a group of islands in the Aegean Sea, between Athens and Crete, known for its natural beauty and spectacular architecture. Paros is also the most central located island of the Cyclades and ferry boats go daily to different islands.

Piso Aliki is a quiet bay, just behind Aliki, a small fishing village at the still quiet south-coast of Paros. There are several lovely beaches close by, a few taverna's / restaurants at the seaside and beautiful sunsets to enjoy in the afternoon.

Food:
A good variety of groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables are available in local stores.
There are a few Greek tavernas, at the seaside, where you can have lunch / dinner or just a coffee. In general the Greek kitchen offers, apart from dishes with meat, a lot of dishes suitable for vegetarians and there is plenty of fresh fish.

Transportation:
Busses go regular between Parikia (main town) and Aliki, untill late in the evening. Costs about 1 Euro. Taxis cost about 15 Euro.
To go to Naoussa/the other side of the island is a bit more complicated, first you have to take the bus to Parikia and then another bus. You can also rent a bike or a car. Many accidents happen with bikes, so please be very careful!

Money:
There is an ATM/ cash machine in Aliki.

OTHER THINGS TO DO AND PLACES TO GO:

There are many nice places to go to on the island. What I like most about Paros is its diversity. Every village, every beach, every area, is very different; has it’s own atmosphere and visitors. I will give you my selection here, but of course it’s very personal

If you like food and have a bit of time; Eddy is also organising real nice cooking classes on Paros. Maybe something for the day of on wedenesday or if you stay a bit longer.

It is also possible to go scuba diving in Aliki

Painting classes:
Enjoy painting, drawing and printmaking classes with Artists on the Move.  Participants paint and draw in open settings surrounded by stunning views of the Aegean Sea and amid the island’s traditional villages. The art workshops are open to all levels of experience from the complete beginner wanting to learn the basics, to the seasoned professional looking for an idyllic setting. Students may choose to paint in oil, acrylic or watercolor.

Horse riding in the area of Naoussa

Kite surfing in the area of Pounta

A nice - but popular - beachbar close by Aliki is called “Farangas”.
The sand and the sea are beautifull there, they have a bar where you can have something to drink and eat, there is plenty of shadow (important in the summer in Greece) and they rent sunbeds and umbrella’s.

Farangas

If you prefer more quiet, there are plenty of small beaches around, without bar/taverna, where it’s more quiet.

PARIKIA

Spitiko,
one of the best places to watch the sunset at the seafront of Parikia. You can have something nice to eat or just a drink.
Run by Patricia and Menos, a French/Greek couple.

Magaya beach restaurant

close to Parikia, one of my favorite places to go, if you want something else. It is located right on the beach near Parikia. It offers all day long drinks and food in Asian & Greek recipes. They play nice music and have hammocks to relax and a nice bar with a fresh breeze most of the times. Sometimes they have live music on sunday afternoons.

Tango Mar
is another beach bar at the end of Parikia on the left side.
Calm atmosphere, nice food, international kitchen.

Distrato
Coffees, refreshments, crepes ,sandwiches, burgers and fresh salads all served under a huge tree to keep you cool on a hot day.

Evinos
Offers various refreshments, drinks and cocktails served at a beautiful terrace with panoramic views of the Parikia bay. A good place for a sunset drink.

Pebbles
Above 'Le Bistrot' at the seafront of Parikia. Classical music for sunset and Jazz Bar until late in the night. Features often live Jazz bands.

RESTAURANTS:

Levantis

Levantis restaurant is nestled in the heart of the old town of Paroikia.  The dining area is set in a garden courtyard covered by a stunning 200 year old grapevine. The chef, Giorgios Mavridis, presents a modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine using local ingredients including his own production of olive oil whenever possible. My favorite restaurant! If you want to eat something special, you really should go there! Delicious!

Levantis slow roasted cherry tomato and rocket salad with pan-fried haloumi wrapped in vine leaves.

Nourios
If you want someting else, delightfull Japanes/Chinese food, and sushi's.
No internet site, but everybody know's it. You'll find the place inbetween Magaya Beach Bar and Parikia, on the main road.

Cactus
Specialises in Mexican and Latin American cuisine. Also great Thai food.

Happy Green Cows
is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant in Parikia, which daily offers 30 different dishes. Funny interior also.

NAOUSSA
The old port at the other side of the island, where most of the night life is happening. A lot of bars and restaurants. Prices in general are higher then in Parikia. There is a small port inside, don’t miss it...... and an old pirate’s fort. You can eat nice fish there, just caught by the local fisherman.

LEFKES
A different village, with different people, in the middle of the island, in the mountains. Quiet, no cars/bikes in the old centre. Nice to have a walk through and combine it with lunch/dinner.

ANTI-PAROS and THEA
You can take the boat from Punta to Anti-Paros, and you’ll be there in les then half an hour. The boat goes every 30 minutes. No cars and bikes allowed also in the main town, so it has a different and calm atmosphere. A lot of tourists with small children go there. You can also go with bike/car over the island. There are nice beaches and you can visit the caves.

Make sure you take the right road; there are 2 Pounda’s; a beach bar at the east side and the boat to Anti-Paros at the west side of the island. Where the boat leaves from Paros to Anti-Paros is located a restaurant/wine club; Thea, which means “view”. If you like good wine you should go there. Owner Nikos can play real nice music, if he’s in a good mood;-)
